SF/Bay Area IT firm introduces two new services designed to help save companies money

By Agnes Kosiorek on Thursday, July 23, 2009

MILESTONE Technologies, Inc. is a leading IT service provider with clients around the world. The common concern among their global client base is centered on how to save money while maintaining a high level of IT support.

MILESTONE has been helping their customers solve IT problems for nearly fifteen years now. But the biggest IT problem looming today has little to do with servers or laptops, help desks or call centers. The biggest issue facing IT managers today is how to get more for less. Companies need more efficiency from existing equipment, more productivity with fewer employees and more from the same budget dollars with no increase in capital spending in sight.

It is the same story all around the globe. And it doesn’t matter if you are IBM or Hewlett-Packard, GE or Google, Ford or Perkin-Elmer. Because of this very tough economic climate, all smart companies are looking to do more with less.

MILESTONE recognized that they could help some of their clients early on, during the very beginning of the recession.

“We received numerous calls from some of our best and biggest customers, letting us know that they would be streamlining IT staff levels as a result of the economic down-turn.” states Tony Silveira, Executive VP in charge of field operations at MILESTONE.

“We saw lay-offs of long time employees at many of our client facilities. There was a job to do at these facilities and sometimes there was not a client IT professional available to do the work,” explains Silveira. “MILESTONE made a strategic decision to offer our experienced IT staff, on an as needed basis, to these distressed clients.”

The results have been well received not only by the initial accounts that MILESTONE has helped, but by new accounts as well. MILESTONE has recently announced a new service offering to all businesses that have a need for temporary IT professionals, known as ‘augment IT staff’.

MILESTONE did not stop there in the effort to provide still more clients with a high value IT service, designed to ultimately save money while increasing IT efficiency.

“There are other clients who have budget concerns too, even though they may not be facing immediate layoffs or other drastic action. How will the recession affect the future of their IT operations?“ continues Silveira.

These clients need a strategic solution to control IT costs. They need a long range solution that looks forward. The solution must optimize the current IT equipment as well as the new equipment and software that the client will need to buy to support growth during tough times.

MILESTONE has recently introduced such an IT solution, trade named, ‘optimize IT’. This program begins with a full IT assessment of a company’s complete IT infrastructure.

These assessments are often scheduled to correspond with other important IT events, such as company-wide software deployment or perhaps company relocation to new facilities. The ‘optimize IT’ assessment provides a complete inventory and location of the IT assets (hardware and software) owned by the company. This in-turn provides MILESTONE engineers with the data necessary to perform applications analysis.

This study results in an efficiency equation that lets clients know their current level of IT efficiency. Most of the time clients discover massive inefficiencies that once corrected, yield higher employee productivity and reduce the need for new equipment. The ‘optimize IT’ program does not stop at the initial assessment.

With the most disruptive IT issues solved first, MILESTONE then installs self-help and other user training protocols that further enhance productivity by allowing users to solve many of their own IT issues without the need for outside services.

Tony Silveira sums it all up saying,

“The main objective for MILESTONE’s ‘optimize IT’ service is to move our clients’ IT maturity level upward, which already corresponds with their objectives. We have proven many times that when a customer’s IT maturity is elevated and that their IT programs are optimized ultimately aligning with important IT industry standards, their overall IT costs go down.”
