MILESTONE Named to 2009 Inc. 5000

Today, Inc. Magazine released their list of the 5000 fastest growing private companies in America. MILESTONE Technologies, Inc. (MILESTONE), a Fremont, California-based IT service firm ranked 2076.

Since debuting in 1991 with 100 of the fastest-growing private U.S. companies, then expanding the following year to the Inc. 500, and again in 2007 to the Inc. 5000, the list has served as evidence of the significant accomplishments of entrepreneurial companies. As an Inc. 5000 honoree, MILESTONE shares a prestigious pedigree with some of the most successful businesses in America. Past honorees of this recognition have included such companies as Microsoft, Intuit Software, Jamba Juice, and Oracle Corporation.

Unlike the Inc. 100 or the Inc. 500, the Inc. 5000 does not merely recognize a one year growth streak. Rather, recipients of the Inc. 5000 award have demonstrated a steady and prolonged growth period of over 5 years. MILESTONE grew by a staggering 153.1%. These innovative companies have met rigorous criteria for sales revenue, profit, private ownership, and independence from mega-corporations. MILESTONE Technologies, Inc. was founded by Silicon Valley entrepreneur Prem Chand in 1998. Although Chand’s company was not started in his garage, it did have humble beginnings.

"I started MILESTONE to serve a niche in the IT industry," explains Prem Chand. "I began my career as an assistant to the Chief Financial Officer for a moving company that specialized in handling high-tech equipment moves. This company physically moved the equipment, but did not provide the disconnect/reconnect service or other important IT support. I witnessed many problems associated with moving desktops and servers. Most of the problems that we encountered in those early days were associated with the disconnect/reconnect process."

"When it was my time to enter the business world as an owner, I decided to start an IT service company that would provide the specialized service of disconnecting, packaging, moving, then un-packaging, and reconnecting desktops and servers that were being relocated," Chand says.

Today, MILESTONE does a lot more than plug in and unplug computers. Clients like AMD, PerkinElmer, Blue Shield of California, and eBay are among a host of companies that rely on Chand’s company for sophisticated IT infrastructure support and services. The firm has brought several successful service offerings to bear in the IT market place.

Relocate IT. This service is an off-shoot of the original disconnect/reconnect days. Today, MILESTONE has relocated over one million computer systems. Some moves are across campus and some moves are across the globe. Deploy IT. Who are you going to call when you need 4000 seats of a new operating system installed enterprise wide at your company? Try MILESTONE. This service initially was offered as an adjunct to the process of moving. After all, when is there a better time to deploy new software than when your IT system is down for the move anyway?

Manage IT. As the company grew, Chand saw the need for a complete IT solution for his clients. The Managed Services model is not new to IT. Many firms seek one point of control and contact for all of their IT support. Call centers, service desks, desktops and servers and now phones are all integrated into a master IT service agreement.

Augment IT Staff. With the current state of the economy, some of MILESTONE’s clients have had significant layoffs of IT staffers. Many of the functions that were forsaken as a result of layoffs are filled by temporary IT support professionals from Chand’s staff.

Optimize IT. Today there are steady advances in next generation computing (NGC) that allow IT systems to yield efficiencies that yesterday were not possible. MILESTONE is one of the global leaders in this technology field.

Other opportunities are on the horizon for this budding company. Prem Chand meets the true definition of an entrepreneur. His company seeks solutions to IT problems and brings those solutions to market ahead of their competition. MILESTONE has earned their place on the Inc. 5000 list.
